Information Systems Center (ISC) was founded by the rector’s order in 1998 and was subordinated to the pro-rector in charge of scientific work.
The main aim of ISC is to ensure introduction and use of new information technologies in teaching process and other spheres of activity of all university units:
- Kyiv National Economic University;
- Kryvyy Rig Economic Institute;
- Crimean Economic Institute;
- Kyiv College of Information Systems and Technologies.
The University has at its disposal 1281 computers linked in the local network of all faculties, departments, departments, the research institute and the library. The university incorporates 15 computer rooms for general use and 25 specialized computer rooms belonging the faculties and departments.
8 servers of general use ensure necessary information resources (Intranet KNEU) for the teaching process and assure efficient work of all departments of the university. The server gives access to the Internet by the channel 2 mb/sec. and enables students to use the services of e-mail. Local servers of computer rooms support information resources in accordance with the specialization of the faculty.
In the framework of curricula of the Faculty of Finance, Faculty of Accounting, Faculty of Banking and Faculty of Economics and Management such systems as “IC”, “Sail”, “Galaxis”, “Operational day of the bank”, “Business_Plan_Pro”, “Biznes-Forecast”, “BEST_PRO”, “DA-system”, “Universal_tester”, “INEK-insurer” and many others are used.
Information system and electronic catalogue “Irbis” including subsystems “Irbis-catalogue”, “Irbis-giving books”, “Irbis-acquirer” and “Irbis-administator” have been introduced. It provides 32 working places for the library workers and staff of the publishing house that enable unlimited access and use of the system.
The integrated system “BEST_PRO” for 59 working places has been introduced in the accounting department, department of finance and personnel department. In addition, this system serves 75 additional terminals in the deans’ offices, in departments and departments with the aim of informing the administration of the university on financial questions.
In accordance with the development plan of systems of distant education a system WebCT supporting distant courses was introduced in KNEU in 1998. In 2005 all the functions of development and support of the system of distant learning were passed to the Information Systems Center of KNEU.
